Characteristics Of Harmonic Filtering And Reactive Power Compensation
The harmonic filter circuit is composed of capacitors in series with reactors. The capacitor of the harmonic filter generates reactive power at the fundamental frequency, and the circuits designed for compensation based on the desired power factor. The inductance value of the reactor is elected to resonate in series with the capacitor to form a low impedance circuit for harmonics, allowing most of the harmonic current to flow into the harmonic filter.
A typical harmonic filter circuit contains three of the most common harmonic frequencies(5th, 7th, and 1lth). The harmonic filter is installed inside a cabinet made of cold rolled sheet metal, and each filter also includes an electromagnetic contactor, thermal rely, reactor, and capacitor. Usually, the harmonic filters connected to the feeder of the main distribution cabinet through a fuse. The control method of harmonic filters and capacitors with automatics witching can be the same they are automatically switched by power factor adjusters according to the required reactive power.
